Peacemaker Assemblies & Beyond

TKF is working to create lasting impacts

As we reflect on the accomplishments of the past school year, TKF’s programs continue to create lasting impact in schools and communities across the country.

Across San Diego County, we brought our Peacemaker Assembly and Restorative Parenting Workshops to San Diego Catholic Schools while deepening our partnership with Santee School District.

This spring, TKF trained an additional eight educators to deliver our 10-week Restorative Workshop curriculum, extending restorative justice practices to more than 175 students through sustainable, school-based implementation.

Beyond the classroom, TKF engaged parents and caregivers through restorative parenting workshops at St. Columba School and a special introductory session hosted by the Santee YMCA in collaboration with the Santee School District.

These efforts reflect our belief that restorative culture is most effective when it extends beyond students and classrooms to include all the adults who influence a child’s development.

Tasreen Khamisa and Tony Hicks also spoke with 115 students during a student-led Peace Summit created by students at Rancho Buena Vista High School.

The summit encouraged students to examine punitive approaches in education, including zero-tolerance policies, while exploring how restorative mindsets can positively transform school climate and support student mental health.

We are also excited to share our message on a national level. This summer we will be presenting two breakout sessions at the upcoming National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) Conference in New Orleans and in the fall, Tony Hicks and Azim Khamisa will deliver the keynote address at the annual Colorado Youth Detention Continuum (CYDC) Conference.
